PLTU or Coal Fire Steam Power Plant Asam-Asam at South Kalimantan is the only one power plant supplying electricity supply in South and Central Kalimantan region.    with a capacity of only 2x65MW of course will not be enough to serve the needs of the two regions, so it is rarely electricity supply was interrupted or the power disconnection. It is therefore in line with the acceleration program for electricity supply 10,000 MW whole Indonesia PLN building new 2x60 PLTU MW regions Pulang Pisau Central Kalimantan and 2x65MW as an extension of PLTU units I and II Asam-Asam South Kalimantan.

PLTU 2x65 MW Asam-Asam is a consortium of companies from the project between China's Chengda company  with one STATE-OWNED ENTERPRISES (BUMN) in Indonesia, PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA). As for the split of work,   Chengda’s  more focused on Design Engineering and supply the materials while the other side  PT. WIKA is more to the part of its construction and installation.

The official ceremony of the Ground Breaking PLTU Asam-Asam implemented in February 2009 by South Kalimantan’s Governor H. Rudi Ariffin and until now (04/12/2011) work process has reached about 90%. work left resides termination and all synchronization network that is in the building system.

Beside that, the latest development project is currently under process is Steam Blowing process. Where this process is one of the procedures that must be done in order to perform testing of steam pipeline leaks to figure out whether or not and at the same time to clean the dirt that exist along the pipeline. The process of Steam Blow it already took place from December 1, 2011 and plan will be made up to December 14, 2011.

Of course we all hope that this project will be completed as soon as possible, because until now the project has been delayed in the timetable PLTU unit 3 should be finished in July and unit 4 completed in September 2011. However in reality until now still has not been completed.

Hopefully with this quick completion of the PLTU project, electricity supply for South and Central Kalimantan is awarded, so there is no mention of a shut down process such as an already-rotating already. In addition the availability of electric power is also expected to encourage the influx of investments in various sectors like the steel industry, industry of CPO etc on a large scale that would be in dire need of a supply of electrical energy.
